This month's focus area.... Beacon Hill
Beacon Hill is a neighborhood in Southeast Seattle. A great addition due to open in Fall 2009 is Sound Transit Light Rail station, located at Beacon Ave S and S Lander Street. Other big news in Beacon Hill is that come Autumn 2008 Beacon Hill Elementary school will become an International School. According to an annual report, more than 90 percent of Beacon Hill Elementary School students are of ethnic origin, with more than 10 different languages being represented by the school's 383 students and 70 percent of the student's families qualifying for free or reduced lunches. Seattle plans to open 9 more International Schools across the city in the next 5-6 years. It is the hope of the city to become a leader in the global community and help children learn to communicate strongly within it.

*Pacific Medical Center*
'PacMed' located on the northern tip of Beacon Hill. Formerly a marine hospital, now most of the building is leased to Amazon.com |

*Jefferson Park*
This popular park offers extraordinary views of downtown, Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. It is also home to the Jefferson Park Golf Course, the Jefferson Community Center and Jefferson Lawn Bowling. |

*Public Library*
The Beacon Hill branch of Seattle Public Library opened in 2005. Part of the 'Libraries for All' offers a bilingual staff and numerous other resources. |
